Australian surfboard manufacturer Samsara Surf prides itself on pushing boundaries, delivering high-performance surfboards which are also ecofriendly. All of its surfboards are handmade or precision-machined at their shop in Victoria. Currently, carbon fibre is the industry-standard reinforcement for stringerless surfboards. Jason Wiggers, Owner of Samsara Surf, was aware that the surf community are environmentally conscious. Passionate about the environment himself, he wanted to find an alternative to carbon fibre for his next project to make eco-friendly boards more easily available to the community. Carbon Fiber Australia introduced Wiggers to Composites Evolution’s sustainable, high performance reinforcement materials. Impressed by technical data sheets for Biotex, Wiggers decided to make a prototype stringerless board using Biotex Flax.
Biotex Flax can be used in the same way as carbon fibre or fibreglass, meaning that once supplied Samsara could construct the eco-surfboard without having to change their existing process. Once constructed the board was tested extensively with excellent results.
Composites Evolution suggested that Samsara Surf use Biotex Flax as it has excellent damping properties whilst still remaining lightweight.
Why Biotex Flax?
Biotex Flax gave Samsara Surf the high-performance results it needed, helping it to stay true to its vision of providing eco-friendly surfboards.
