Vacancy: Project Manager – Composite Materials Research & Development

Composites Evolution Ltd develops and manufactures innovative composite prepreg materials. Our products are used to make high-performance lightweight components and structures in a variety of market sectors including mass transport, automotive, motorsport, sporting equipment and consumer goods. We are passionate about helping our clients develop new solutions and we work with designers, converters and brand owners to help them utilise our materials in their products.

We are now looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Project Manager to join our Research & Development Team working on the next generation of composite materials.

The role will primarily encompass:

  • Overall coordination of, and managing Composites Evolution’s participation within, a number of collaborative research projects and internal development programmes.
  • Working with Composites Evolution’s Research & Development staff to deliver tasks associated with those work programmes on time and on budget.
  • Liaison with collaborators, funding bodies, suppliers and customers.
  • Preparation of progress reports, presentations, project finances and grant claims.
  • Organising and chairing project review meetings.
  • Preparation of research proposals and building of research consortia.

The size and ambition of the company mean that there will also be opportunities for involvement in other activities and business areas, and our philosophy is to allow individuals to grow with the company. We are looking for someone with the following essential skills and experience:

  • A background in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • A proven track record in the technical, financial and people management of research and development projects.
  • Experience in managing multi-partner collaborative research programmes such as those funded by Innovate UK and the European Commission.
  • The ability to plan and execute work across multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

Desirable, but non-essential, skills and experience are as follows:

  • A degree or higher degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • A background in polymers and/or composite materials. Experience in thermosetting prepreg materials would be a particular advantage.
  • A successful track record in the writing of research grant proposals.
